No, I'm NOT touting for business!! This Site is the realisation of a long held ambition. I have dabbled in computer programming since before the days of the Spectrum but it was always very piecemeal and nothing too serious - block graphic type games on a non standard home computer system bought in a sale in Birmingham. This was in the days before the Spectrum took off. After the Spectrum, came the Commodore, And then came the PC!!! For a couple of years then, I wanted to play with HTML, and even create a web site. Somehow though, I never quite got around to it. Time was the biggest obstacle. Then, on 30 June 2003, after 39 years of working for 'Queen and Country', I retired from the Police Force. Maybe my opportunity had finally arrived. There was an added incentive - in August of that year, a niece visited and asked if I could develop a commercial site for her home-made conserves business. So down to Blackwells and Waterstones in Oxford I went. Then I sat down to make a start. The commercial site started as a very basic site and by Christmas had a very reasonable looking site and had even received some very positive feed-back from site visitors. But the problem I had was that of data ownership and three months later the Site was still in it's Christmas trappings. It died a death. I have now designed and manage four other web sites.
I have had various versions of this site, none of them very successful. All have fallen by the way side. However I have decided to start from scratch. At the moment, it's direction is not certain but initially I intend to use it as a test platform. Being a bit of a purist I don't want to use Dreamwaever and such like and I really want to master the various web design elements, e.g. CSS. So, watch this space!
